This device comprises a fixed frame (1), a support (3) which is allocated to the frame (1) and constitutes a V-shaped rest and on which the wood to be cut up is placed, and blades (4, 5, 7, 8) which simultaneously split the wood and cut it to length, the support (3) increasing in width in the opposite direction to the splitting direction of the wood, and the blade (4) which splits the wood being rotatably mounted in the frame in such a way that its path (13) of movement intersecting the wood lying on the support (3) has the shape of a circular arc. In order to be able to split pieces of wood essentially centrally irrespective of their thickness with a device of this type, the form of the support (3) increasing in width follows the curved path (13) of movement of the splitting blade (4) in such a way that the centre point of a piece of wood of circular cross-section lying on the support (3) always lies on the path of movement of the splitting blade (4) or directly next to it. <IMAGE>
