PURPOSE:A flame retardant lubricating oil, containing a specific polyoxyalkylene glycol diether and water, capable of readily treating waste water due to insolubility in water, having smoking resistance and no flash point, and suitable for a cutting oil and a hydraulic (working) oil. CONSTITUTION:A lubricating oil containing (A) about 90-20wt% polyalkylene glycol diether, having an average molecular weight of 500-20,000, expressed by the formula (R1 and R4 are 6-30C hydrocarbon; R2O is oxypropylene or oxyethylene; R3 is methylene or ethylene; a, b, c, and d are positive integers) at a weight ratio between the oxyethylene groups and the higher oxyalkylene groups of 10/90- 80/20, and both forming a block copolymer and (B) about 10-80wt% water. |
