The furnace is constructed in the traditional manner having an insulated enclosure (11) with a door (6), fire bars (5), an ash box (4) and an air supply pipe (3). The water tube-nest (1) is at the top of the furnace but separated from the latter by a filter (7). The filter is constructed from dense fibreglass sandwiched between the grilles or perforated plates. During combustion the heat is retained in the furnace but the products of combustion pass through the filter (7) giving up their heat to the water in the tubes (1). The radiation loss from the furnace is practically zero.
