The video disc reader uses a burst signal to ensure an accurate time error measurement. The burst signal is locked to the horizontal synchronising pulses. To obtain a pilot signal for the time error measurement a keying signal is generated by a generator which is controlled by the horizontal sync. Pulse, the beginning of the keying signal being situated within the time interval of the burst signal. The first zero passage of the burst signal which appears after the beginning of the keying signal is employd as a pilot signal.
