<p>The generator is designed to replace some existing water barrages reducing the cost of hydro-electric generation. The appts consists of a reservoir (1) from which water is taken by a pump (3) via a pipeline (2). The pump supplies a second reservoir at some height above the first. An asymmetrical siphon (6) takes water from this second reservoir and feeds it to a turbine (5) driving an alternator. The spent water is then returned to the lowest reservoir. The siphon may be primed by the pump and the longest leg of the siphon ie, that leading to the turbine may be spiralled etc. to increase the turbine pressure. The water pressure in the pipe from the first reservoir does not exceed atmospheric pressure such that the power consumption of the pump is minimised.</p> |
