1283067 Absorbent paper-foam laminates KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP 28 July 1969 [5 Aug 1968] 37746/69 Heading B5N A laminate comprises a layer of absorbent paper or cellulose wadding bonded at spaced zones to an elastomeric foam sheet which has been stretched before bonding and which has a greater thickness than the paper. The material may be made by applying adhesive at spaced points to a continuous web of paper or wadding by a patterned roll, and bonding stretched foam thereto in the nip of calender rolls heated to 330‹ F., and allowing the foam to retract; if creped tissue or wadding is used the compressive force exerted by the foam will cause the paper to bulk up between the adhesive zones, whereas stiffer material such as uncreped paper will need wetting to cause such bulking. Paper may be provided on both sides of the foam, which may be supplied in a pre-stretched roll or stretched on a tenter prior to lamination. The paper may be wet-strengthened. The foam may be polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride or a natural or synthetic latex, of thickness À02-À05 inch. The adhesive may be plasticized or unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate or polyalkyl acrylate. |
