Self-aligning plain bearing - has outer ring containing peripheral V=section notches to increase deflection under load

The plain bearing is partic. of the self-aligning type, comprising an inner ring with spherical running surface and an outer one of material of low elasticity. This can be glass-fibre-reinforced plastics, partly enclosed in the axial direction by metal walls. The outer ring is subjected to variable thrust loads and contains one or more peripheral notches (4, 6), pref. of V-section. It can also have radial and/or axial slots and can be enclosed between two L-section rings (3), one or both of which are movable axially by an adjusting mechanism.
