Turbocharged IC engine lubrication system - with starter actuated electric circuit for auxiliary oil pump which supplies floating bearing through filter

The I. C. engine has an exhaust gas turbocharger and has a main oil pump (2), driven by the engine, which supplies a lubricant through a filter (5) to the gallery (6) and to the floating bearing (16) of the exhaust gas turbo charger. In addition, an auxiliary oil pump (21) with a separate suction strainer (3') is driven from a battery when a contact (24) is closed every time the starter is actuated. This auxiliary pump fills up the filter (5) and its piping through a non-return valve (25). The result is a much faster supply of oil to the floating bearing (16) of the exhaust gas turbo charger. Bearing seizures can thereby be eliminated and the oil pressure of 2 kg/cm2 required for the floating bearing is quickly reached.
