A compression moulding compsn. contains 95-98 pts. wt. (A) a prod. obtd. by treating crushed wood with an aq. soln. of phenol and formaldehyde at the boiling temp. of the soln. in the presence of HCl (wt. ratio of phenol/formaldehyde/water/HCl/crushed wood = 0.15-0.40:0.048-0.27:10-15:0.0724-0.1086:1); 1-3 pts. wt. (B) hexamethylene tetramine, 0.5-1 pts. wt. (C) CaO or MgO, and 0.5-1 pts. wt. (D) stearin, oleic acid or a stearate. The compsn. can be used in mechanical and civil engineering and the tractor industry. It has high curing rate, water resistance, heat resistance, dielectric properties and hardness; and is obtd. in an economical single stage process. The articles moulded from the compsn. have uniform colour and gloss. Plate-like articles show swelling not exceeding.
