The machine for separating stacked sheets of material, such as disposable paper covers for toilet seats, consists of a carrier-piece (3) which is next to the stack and which operates under spring action. The carrier (3) is at right angles to the tilting axis and is in the form of a tipping lever, with its tilting joint in the form of a central sliding bar (2). The tilting joint includes a hole for the sliding bar (2), the diametrically opposite sides (23, 24,; 22, 25) of which are in pairs for one or other of the two tilt positions, and diverge outwards from the narrowest point (19) determining the tilt axis. The tilting lever (3) has a handle (14) on one end, and a frictional piece (15) which rests on the stack of sheets.
