摘要 <p>Endoprosthesis components of C-based material are bonded on their contact surfaces, having the final required shape, with a layer of SiC cpd. The article may be treated by the vacuum-pressure method in a liq. Si melt, so that Si and C react to form the bonding layer. Alternatively the surfaces to be joined are coated with a slurry of Si (or Si plus C) powder, the pieces brought together, dried then heated in a reducing atmos. to form the SiC layer. Optimum utilisation of the special characteristics of each material is achieved. The bonds are resistant not only to compressive forced but also (unlike self-locking cones) to tractive force.</p>
