PURPOSE:To make waveform characteristics freely programmable and enable spectrum synthesis to be accomplished by the constitution comprising arraying and fixing a multiplicity of optical fibers, optically polishing their surfaces to remove part of their calds and compression-bonding the light absorbing material of an arbitrary shape. CONSTITUTION:A multiplicity of optical fibers 2 are arrayed and fixed on the surface of a substrate 1 and their surfaces are optically polished to get rid of part of the clads 3. Coupling of light is accomplished between the cores 4 and light absorbing material 5. If light of wavelengths varying with each optical fiber 2 is beforehand propagated in the cores 4, the light is absorbed by the light absorbing material 5 and the intensity of the light decreases at the exponential functions of the axial length of the light absorbing material 5 and therefore if necessary wavelength distributions are logarithmically converted, the shape of the light absorbing material 5 is determined. |
