PURPOSE:To form various melodies by converting the patterns of chord-tones to pitches to form the melodies of chord-tones and converting the patterns of non-chord-tones to pitches, then adding the non-chord-tones to the melodies of the chord-tones. CONSTITUTION:A melody synthesizing device 2 discriminates the chords in the chord-tone positions indicated by the generation timing information of the chord-tones by referencing the chord length array data of chord progression. The device converts the corresponding elements in chord-tone parameters to pitches by using the detected chords. The device 2 executes the addition of the non-chord-tones in succession thereto. The addition of the non-chord-tones is discriminated as the corresponding chords examine the chord length of the chord progression in respective non-chord-tone inspection positions. A required number of the candidates for the pitches of the non-chord-tones are selected by using the discriminated chords and the kinds of the non-chord-tones are ratiocinated from the conditions of the melodies before and after the same. The candidate is decided as the non-chord-tones when the result thereof coincides with the corresponding elements in the parameters of the non-chord- tones.
