The rotary piston engine has a cylindrical rotor (13) centrally located in a kidney-section casing. three prismatic-section spring-loaded sliders (51, 52, 53) are arranged in rectangular slots (40, 42, 43) in the rotor, with axes (44, 45, 46) transposed in the direction of rotation from radii (47, 48, 49) to which they are parallel. They seal against the casing creating variable volume chambers. On either side of a central contact line (22) between the rotor and casing there are openings for gas entry (23) and discharge (24) respectively. The motor-casing clearance opposite that line is minimal. End sealing is by peripheral strips (66) in the rotor, U-shaped strips (75) in the sliders.
