<p>On a machine for the ornamental stitching of leather, e.g. for shoe uppers or fancy leatherwork, where a needle support head is mounted above a work support plate, and comprises a needle support element and a presser foot mounted to move vertically, a second presser foot is also similarly mounted on the needle support head. Cyclic driving means provide the second presser foot with vertical alternating movement between two extreme positions. In one position, the presser foot is held in contact with the work on the work support plate, and in the other it is held above the plate. Any lifting of the workpiece due to yarn tension is avoided. Complex or cumbersome devices, possibly difficult to handle, are not required. The work support plate need only comprise slots for passage of the needle according to the required stitches, and upwardly pointing locking studs, intended to engage with holes worked in the piece to be stitched.</p> |
