Two clamping holders provide in each case a through grip for the tool and a mounting for an end of the barrel blank each end of which has at least one reference face for the mounting. Each mounting has clamping blocks in its holder which are located in two directions at right angles to one another transverse to the horizontal axis. The clamping holders are placed at an axial distance from one another defined by the length of the blank being machined.
