Integrally formed on the shank (25a) of the tool (25) in diametral arrangement are two ribs (25b) which project beyond the shank (25a) in the radial direction. A locking element (11, 12) of the tool holder releases the shank after partial rotation. In order to render separate elements for locking and transmitting the torque to the shank superfluous, avoid substantial weakening of the shank and reduce the production costs, the two ribs (25b) are integrally formed on the shank (25a) at a distance from the end of the shank in such a way that the cross-sectional area of the shank in each section taken through the deformed portion of the shank is roughly as large as the cross-section of the rest of the shank. The tool (25) is centred in the tool receptacle by the circumferential surfaces of the shank not covered by the deformation. <IMAGE>
