Internal combustion engine has a cylindrical inlet duct (1) provided at its end remote from the engine with an injection nozzle (5) arranged coaxially with the duct. Adjacent the nozzle is provided an inlet (10) for air, supplementary fuel or exhaust gas. The inlet is tangential to the duct. The duct wall is electrically heated e.g. by a coil of heating wire. The nozzle provides a spray directed divergently against the heated wall to vaporise the fuel.
