The joint mechanism for a knee prosthesis includes a built-in cylinder, horizontally aligned, immediately above the knee cap. A strong cord passes through this cylinder with a head on its upper end retained in a disc inside the cylinder. When tensioned, this cord pulls the disc and compresses a spring inside the cylinder. The lower end of the cord travels around a pulley inside the knee cap, and is anchored at its bottom end to an elastic cable passing down the lower leg part, and anchored at the bottom. This cord is then pulled by a swinging arm when the knee is bent, compressing the spring.
|
