The primary circuit of the ignition coil contains a switch, and its secondary circuit contains the spark plugs. The closing angle of the switch is controlled by a device connected to a signal generator in engagement with a rotary shaft. The angle control device has a storage (21) whose value is variable by successive, continuous decreasing and increasing phases. One phase is defined by the time period of integration between two threshold values, while the other phase is defined by the current flow duration in the primary circuit of the ignition coil (15), starting with the instant at which the primary current has reached a threshold value. The storage value can be transmitted to a second storage (23) on the signal generator (10) output. The switch (13) is closed by preset threshold value of the storage, while being opened by the generator signal.
