The construction of an intermediate layer for carpeting is formed of two layers, i.e. a loose felting of textile fibres which is needle bonded to a reinforcement layer. During needle bonding, fibre tufts are pulled through the reinforcement layer. The reinforcement layer is a fibre felting stiffened by water jet streams. Both layers are composed of synthetic fibres, pref. of polypropylene, polyester, polyamide, acrylic or their combination(s). The construction gives the carpet protection and insulation properties, and also gives a sprung feeling to the floor covering, without using a foam backing.
|
