<p>A novel antibiotic with high antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, especially bacteria which are resistant to aminoglycoside antibiotics, is prepared. This entails acylation of the antibiotic XK-62-2 of the formula II, which is obtained by cultivation of actinomycetes, <IMAGE> in which, where appropriate, at least one of the amino groups in position 2' and 6' undergoes intermediate protection, in position 1 using 0.4 to 2.5 mole equivalents of a compound which is able to introduce an alpha -hydroxybeta -aminopropionyl group in which the beta -amino group is substituted by at least one protective group chosen from the protective groups listed in Claim 1. The reaction takes place in a solvent at -50 to 50 DEG C, and subsequently the protective group or protective groups are eliminated.</p> |
