1496838 Producing synthesis gas from solid fuel dispersed in CO 2 TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 24 Nov 1975 [18 Dec 1974] 48168/75 Heading C5E A continuous process for producing a gas stream principally comprising gases selected from CO, H 2 , CO 2 , H 2 O, CH 4 , H 2 S, COS, N 2 , Ar, and mixtures thereof comprises: (1) dispersing ground solid particles of carbonaceous fuel in a high pressure high velocity stream of CO 2 -rich gas having a pressure in the range of 50 to 5000 p.s.i.g. and a velocity in the range of 5 to 500 ft. per sec.; (2) introducing the materials from (1) at a temperature in the range of 80 to 1200 F. and a free-oxygencontaining gas at a temperature in the range of 80 to 500 F. into the reaction zone of a free-flow non- catalytic gas generator in the absence of supplemental H 2 O other than that normally found in said reactants; (3) reacting said carbonaceous fuel, CO 2 and free-oxygen by partial oxidation in said reaction zone at an autogenous temperature in the range of 1200 to 3000 F. and a pressure in the range of 30 to 4800 p.s.i.g.; (4) separating a CO 2 - rich gas stream from the effluent gas stream from (3) in an acid-gas recovery zone; and (5) compressing said CO 2 -rich gas stream and recycling at least a portion thereof to (1) as said high pressure high velocity stream of CO 2 -rich gas. In a modification of the process, H 2 O in amount to provide a weight ratio H 2 O: solid fuel in the range 0À01-0À15:1 is introduced at 50-1000 F. into the reaction zone.
