1472728 Knitting MACCHINE TESSILI CIRCOLARI MATEC SpA 8 Aug 1975 [27 Aug 1974] 33110/75 Heading D1K In knitting tights on a circular machine, a) a first tubular portion (leg) 11 is formed by continuous rotary knitting, b) needles along a first arc corresponding to edge 13 are raised to an inactive position while holding their loops, c) a trapezium-shaped flap 21 is formed by reciprocatory knitting on the remaining arc of needles while edge needles are progressively put out of action, holding their loops to form sides 23, 25, d) the top edge 27 of the flap is pressed off its needles, e) the latter needles then knit the top edge 40 of a new flap 41 which is formed by reciprocatory knitting, the edge needles being progressively restored to action thereby linking the sides of the two flaps, f) on completion of flap 41 the needles holding edge 13 are restored to action and all needles form the other leg 46 by continuous rotary knitting. The top edges of flaps 21, 41 may be formed as anti-ravel tabs or as turned welts. The rate at which needles are put out of/into action at the sides of the flaps is suitably only one needle for several e.g. six or eight courses, may vary as each flap is knitted-preferably increasing in two stages towards the top edge-for extra strength, and may be different at the front and rear of the tights. During knitting of the first flap individual needles at the edges may be reinserted into operation subsequent to their normal exclusion for one or more courses prior to the exclusion of the next needle, to give a better junction between the flaps. Similarly, when knitting the second flap needles may be temporarily reinserted into action prior to their permanent reinsertion. |
