A shaping roller used for forming cardboard into tubes includes an axial groove for lining up the edge of the cardboard. Adjacent the groove is a line of apertures through which suction is applied to hold the cardboard on the roller. The cardboard is accurately held on the roller whilst it is rolled around the roller to form a tube.
