Impurities such as burrs, seed and shive, and double cuts created in shearing are removed from a continuous web of textile fibres in which the fibres have already been made parallel by feeding the material web M continuously through a dabbing zone, defined between two spaced apart nipping positions A- and B, wherein the impurites are pushed to one surface of the web by reciprocating, closely spaced pins 4, the material then being fed to a stripping zone where the impurities are removed from the surface. The removal is preferably carried out by passing the material around a small diameter support roller 6 with the impurity-carrying surface outermost and removing the impurities by a fluted rotary beater 9. A second small diameter support roller 11 may be provided together with a pinned roller 14, rollers 7, 8 and 12 pressing the material against these support rollers. A second dabbing zone may be provided, defined by rollers B and C. Rollers B cause the material to leave the first zone at a faster speed than that at which it enters, and similarly rollers C cause the material to leave the second zone at an even faster speed. A clearer device consisting of stationary horizontal parallel wires 5 co-operates with the pins 4. Suction may be applied to the impurity carrying surface in the dabbing zones.</p> |
