PURPOSE:To perform compression cumulatively, to reduce the device constitution greatly and to make the device small in size on the whole by connecting N stages of pulse interval compressing circuits in series and passing a light pulse train through them. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser 2 and an external modulator 3 are connected to a pulse generator 1 in order and N stages of pulse interval compressing circuits 4-1, 4-2,... 4-N are connected to the external modulator 3 in series. Further, N stages of 1/2 frequency dividers 5-1, 5-2,... 5-N are connected to the pulse generator 1 in series. Delay circuits 6-1, 6-2,... 6-N are interposed between those pulse interval compressing circuits 4-1, 4-2,... 4-N and 1/2 frequency dividers 5-1, 5-2,... 5-N. The pulse compressing circuits perform the compression cumulatively and the device constitution is simplified greatly to reduce the overall size. |
