[Also in Division D1] A yarn tube comprises an elongate substantially circular tubular body 10, the lower driven end of which has a substantially central aperture of curvi-linear configuration for engagement with the driving section of a rotating whorl. The central aperture may be formed in a slidably removable insert 13. The insert 13 has a conical shoulder 25 contacting a conical shoulder 15 on the whorl for ease of centring of the tube on the whorl. Centring means are also provided inside the tubular body intermediate its ends. The curvi-linear configuration of the central aperture comprises at least two arcuate surfaces, each of which curves from a greater to a lesser distance from the axis of rotation. The configuration may be made up of smoothly connected alternating convex and concave surfaces forming lobes, Figs. 4-6 (not shown). The configuration may also be oval, Fig. 7 (not shown). The yarn tube preferably has a protective sheath 12 extending substantially the length of the tube, and a plug at the upper end. |
