1283146 Cracking hydrocarbons IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [2 March 1970] 9835/70 Heading C5E Hydrocarbons are cracked to give olefins in the presence of steam which has been produced in the presence of an alkanolamine. Preferably the alkanolamine, e.g. ethanolamine, is added to the process in aq. solution to maintain the pH of the water used for steam above 7. Corrosion of the boilers as shown by the iron content of the water leaving the boilers is reduced.
