Sheets or films formed of or coated with thermoplastic material, for example regenerated cellulose films coated with a vinyl chloride/ vinylidene chloride copolymer, are laminated together by heating at least one of the surfaces to be contacted to within the softening range of temperature, pressing the surfaces together, removing the pressure, heating the sheets to the same or a lower temperature within the softening range, and cooling. As shown, webs 23, 25 are superficially heated by passage over an electric heater 11, are contacted by rollers 35 and pressed together between rollers 13, 15. The laminate so formed is then passed around an internally heated roller 17 and thence around cooled rollers 19, 21, and is rolled up at 43. In a modification, coated regenerated cellulose films 23, 22 are heated separately by the heater 11 and a heater 69 and are laminated to a film of polythene 79, fed between them. |
