The invention concerns an installation for signalling a motor vehicle deceleration comprising a signal light (2) with an illuminating area divided into luminous lighting sections, each provided with its own particular light source, and means controlling the lighting up of a number of light sources (6) which increases with the vehicle deceleration. The light intensity of the illuminating area remains substantially constant whatever the number of lighting sections lit up. Said constant intensity can be obtained by powering the light sources (6) with substantially constant power. The means controlling the lighting up of the light sources (6) comprise a deceleration sensor (24) and connection means (22) selectively connecting the light sources (6) to an electric power source on the basis of an output signal from the sensor (24).
