1,190,386. Lactic acid bacteria preparations. GREEN CROSS CORP. 4 May, 1967 [28 June, 1966], No. 20832/67. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C6] Lactic acid) bacteria highly resistant to antibiotics (specified) are cultured and propagated in a liquid culture medium, sterilized starch is added to the bacteria culture suspension obtained so as to absorb the lactic acid bacteria on the starch, dry starch is added to the bacteria-absorbed starch until the mixture has the appearance of dry starch powder and druigs for intestinal use are prepared therefrom. The lactic acid bacteria are cultivated in the culture medium (initial pH 6.3-6.8) at a temperature of 36‹-39‹C. for about 48 hours. The bacteria are then absorbed on potato starch (or corn starch) previously sterilized with ethylene oxide and further dry starch is added until an apparently dry dust is obtained. The bacteriacontaining starch dust is filled into gelatine capsules and the capsules are coalted firstly with a 10% ethanol solution of polyvinyl pyrroilidone and subsequently with a 10% methyl ethyl ketone solution of cellulose acetate phthalate. Polyvinyl alcohol monophthalic ester and polyethylene glycol are also mentioned. Lactic acid bacteria: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus lactis and Streptococcus lactis.
