A composition comprises (a) 5 to 95% by weight of a prepolymer obtained by heating at 100‹ to 250‹ C. an N,N<SP>1</SP>-bis-imide of formula where D is a divalent radical containing a carbon-to-carbon double bond, and A is a divalent radical containing at least 2 carbon atoms, with a diamine of formula where B is a divalent radical containing up to 30 carbon atoms, and (b) 5 to 95% by weight of a heat-resistant filler of which at least a part is friction material, slip material, electrically conducting material or an abrasive material. In examples a prepolymer is obtained by heating N,N<SP>1</SP> - 4,4<SP>1</SP> - diphenylmethane - bis - imide of maleic acid with bis(4-aminophenyl) methane and compositions are prepared containing corundum, iron pyrites, lithopone, micronized graphite, molybdenum sulphide, glass fibres, asbestos fibre, copper powder, antimony sulphide, barium oxide and iron oxide; the compositions are moulded with heating under pressure. Uses.-Brake linings, clutch linings, transmission bearings and brushes for electrical generators and motors. |
