The automatic telephone answering machine includes an automatic responder (50) actuated by the telephone ringing signal. A digital memory holds a prepared voice message, and this is played using an integrated circuit synthesiser circuit. A logic circuit (37) for counting the number of consecutive rings prevents the device providing an automatic answer immediately so that the subscriber may answer if present. A relay (45) switches the answering device after the counted ringing signals. The unit is connected to the telephone line by two terminals (L11,L12), and to the telephone handset by two further terminals (T11,T12). A timing circuit holds open the line for a predetermined time after the message begins. Pref. a low power radio transmitter signals ringing to the absent subscriber so that he may answer if e.g. in another room etc. |
