PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developer excellent in charging characteristics while having a sharp distribution of particular sizes, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a developer, a fine particle dispersion liquid containing fine particles containing a colorant, an aqueous medium, and a surfactant of equal to or less than the critical micell concentration is made to coagulate into the fine particle containing the colorant with only pH regulation while adding acid without adding water soluble inorganic metal salt or organic polymer coagulant.
