1. A polymerizable mixture, comprising:
a functionalized ionic gemini surfactant having the structure (Ia), (Ib-1), (Ib-2), (Ic), (Id-1), or (Id-2): whereinX1 and X2 are each independently an optionally substituted branched,unbranched, or cyclic aliphatic groups having from four to 30 carbon atoms, with the proviso that the X1 and X2 of structures (Ic), (Id-1), and (Id-2) do not contain an ene group;Z1 and Z2 are integers, each independently having a value of zero, one, two, or three;Y is a covalently-bound divalent linker;M1 and M2 are the same or different and are each independently selected from hydrogen, hydroxyl, —O−(M+), —OR11, —O(C1-C8 alkyl)N(CH3)3+(X−), —(C0-C8 alkyl)NR11R12, —O(C1-C8 alkyl)NR11R12, —NH(C1-C8 alkyl)NR11R12, —NH(CH—R13)COOM+, —NR11R14, —OCH2CH(OH)CH2OH, —NH(C1-C8 alkyl)SO3−M+, —N(CH3)(C1-C8 alkyl)SO3M+, —NH(C1-C8 alkyl)OSO3−M+, —N(CH3)(C1-C8 alkyl)OSO3− M+, —(C1-C8 alkyl)SO3−M+, —O(C1-C8 alkyl)SO3−M+, —(C1-C8 alkyl)OSO3−M+, —O(C1- C8 alkyl)OSO3−M+, —NH(C1-C8 alkyl)PO3M+2, —N(CH3)(C1-C8 alkyl)PO3M+2, —(C1-C8 alkyl)PO3M+2, or —O(C1-C8 alkyl)PO3M+2 wherein M+ is a counterion, X− is a counterion, R11, R12, and R14 are independently chosen from hydrogen and optionally substituted C1-C8 alkyl, and R13 is an amino acid side chain; andR1 through R10 are each independently chosen from hydrogen, fluoride, chloride, bromide, C1-C8 alkyl, C2-C8 alkenyl, tri(C1-C4 alkyl)silyl, and substituted or unsubstituted phenyl;R17 through R20 and R21 through R26 are each independently selected from C1 to C3 alkyl; andQ is a counterion; a thiol-ene crosslinking agent, wherein the thiol-ene crosslinking agent comprises two or more thiol groups when the functionalized ionic gemini surfactant is structure (Ia), (Ib-1), or (Ib-2), and the thiol-ene crosslinking agent comprises two or more ene groups when the functionalized ionic gemini surfactant is structure (Ic), (Id-1), or (Id-2); and optionally a solvent. |
