PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of accurately designing a minimum output band satisfying a target packet loss rate by counting the number of packets which arrive at an output transmission wait buffer in every measurement time cycle T without providing an exchange or a router with any special measuring instrument.
SOLUTION: In a method of estimating the irreducible output band needed to satisfy the predetermined target packet loss rate of a packet network, the number of packets arriving at output transmission wait buffers 121 to 125 within a measurement time cycle T is measured through operations of counters 131 to 135 of an arrival packet count part 611, the mean of the number of packets arriving within the measurement time period T is derived for a previously set past data use period nT (n: an integer), and the minimum output band needed to satisfy the target packet loss rate is estimated from the mean of the number of packets arriving within the measurement time period T and the maximum number of arrival packets. A band change part 612 manages a scheduler 111 and changes output bands by output wait buffer units according to the calculation result of the minimum output band needed to satisfy the target packet loss rate.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
|
