This closed film spool for alternative use has been designed in order to avoid the rewinding of exposed film onto the starting spool - which is necessary for particular film drives. When threaded, the end of the film is guided through a light-tight slit in the spool shell and through the slits in the two spool core sleeves, which are twisted to be aligned. By turning these spool core sleeves relative to each other the end of the film is locked with positive fitting and incidence of light through the bore of the spool core is prevented. In order that the closed spool can be used both as a full spool and as an empty spool, the spool shell is provided with two light-tight mouth slits which are arranged at a different angle to the spool centre and are necessary for different directions of winding.
