A direct oxidation fuel cell, and a method for preparing the direct oxidation fuel cell are provided to suppress rapid expansion and deformation of an electrolyte membrane part surrounding electrodes due to the supply of liquid fuel. A direct oxidation fuel cell is provided with at least one unit cell, wherein the unit cell comprises an anode(12), a cathode(13), a hydrogen ion conductive polymer electrolyte membrane(11) inserted between the anode and the cathode, an anode-side separator having a channel for supplying fuel to the anode and discharging it, and a cathode-side separator having a channel for supplying an oxidizing agent gas to the cathode and discharging it, and a water repellent layer(31,32) is formed at the part surrounding the anode and the cathode of the electrolyte membrane. |
