A grinding mill for use in a laboratory has a housing consisting of a lower part (10) to which the upper part (11) is attached by a hinge with a horizontal hinge pin (17). The housing encloses a cylindrical chamber (13) which houses a rotor which is mounted with its axis horizontal. The chamber (13) is sealed by a door (12) which is attached to the lower part of the housing by a hinge (18). The door and the upper part (11) of the housing are both secured by a common lock which is actuated by the handle (23).
