PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parking assistance apparatus capable of suppressing a situation in which guidance cannot be made to a parking initial position from where parking can be properly carried out to a parking space.

SOLUTION: The parking assistance apparatus having a parking assistance ECU 12 etc. for guiding the own vehicle to the parking initial position from where the parking to the parking space, which is a space adjacent to a tangible entity around the own vehicle and is a back side relating to a traveling direction of the own vehicle, comprises an assistance starting timing setting unit 12B for setting the timing for starting the guidance of the own vehicle to the parking initial position based on a vehicle velocity of the own vehicle detected by a vehicle speed sensor 18.
