PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder for a secondary battery electrode with which slurry characteristics such as slurry stability or battery characteristics can be improved.SOLUTION: A binder for a secondary battery electrode contains an acid modification unit containing block copolymer hydride which is obtained by performing acid modification on a block copolymer hydride which is obtained by hydrogenating 90% or more of all unsaturated bonds as a total of a carbon-carbon unsaturated bond of a main chain and a side chain of an [(A)-(B)-(A)] type block copolymer and a carbon-carbon unsaturated bond of aromatic rings. The [(A)-(B)-(A)] type block copolymer includes: a polymer block (A) in which an aromatic vinyl compound-based repeating unit is a main component; and a polymer block (B) in which a linear conjugate diene compound-based repeating unit is a main component.
