PURPOSE:To form an ultrahigh-contrast negative image and to obtain sharp dot image quality and processing stability by incorporating a hydrazine derivative in a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer, a redox compound in a hydrophilic colloidal layer, and a developing agent in either of two layers. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer contains the hydrazine derivative and the hydrophilic colloidal layer other than this emulsion layer contains the redox compound to be allowed to release a development inhibtor by being oxidized, and either of these layers contain the main developing agent, thus permitting a high-contrast image to be formed by using a developing solution high in stability and the photosensitive material wide in dot gradation to be obtained.
