Motor vehicle roof opening for providing water run-off

A solid-walled water run-off channel (9) open at the top in the roof exterior (14) adjoins the side part of a gutter (7) and leads out to the front or rear along the roof opening (1) and along a side pillar (21,22) so as to run out free or into a gutter at the bottom of the pillar. The channel is closed off by covers flush with the roof. The roof opening rim is stepped down deeper than the roof to form a horizontal contact face (2) for the lowered sliding roof frame (3) to be joined to the roof opening rim and contact face. The frame is preferably bonded to the contact face by an adhesive layer which runs around the roof opening and so seals the frame relative the contact face. A side part of the frame projects upwards to form a rail for a cover guide.
