1430470 Regeneration of spent alumina FMC CORP 8 Aug 1973 [9 Aug 1972] 37552/73 Heading C1A A process for regenerating spent alumina which has been in contact with an anthraquinone working solution comprises roasting the spent alumina at from 300-400‹ C. until adsorbed organic and carbonaceous matter has been removed, contacting the roasted alumina with an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, roasting the caustic treated alumina at 300- 400‹ C. until the reaction of residual Na 2 O values and the alumina are complete, and recovering a regenerated alumina suitable for maintaining the hydrogen peroxide productivity of an anthraquinone working solution. It is preferred to carry out the initial roasting at 400‹ C. for 4 hours in air, and after cooling to immerse the alumina in an 0À5-5% by wt. aqueous solution of NaOH followed by draining and then heating to below 100‹ C. to remove the excess water and thereafter increasing the temperature to 300-400‹ C. and maintaining this temperature for 2 hours.
|
