The distributed fluid is applied vertically to the fibre material or across its surface, and is pressed into the fibres by a moving converging surface pressing against the material. The converging surface has a number of smooth projections at the same spacing from the material to form the smooth fluid layer of uniform thickness on the surface of the fibre material, ranging in the direction of fibre material movement. To develop a plastic tubing, a powered rotary mandrel is used to apply the fluid resin and distribute it across the width of the fibre material. The same process can be used on a glass fibre matting to be used as a reinforcing layer in the construction of a plastic tubing. The process allows fibre material of a sensitive character to be impregnated fully with a resin, at high speeds, and without damaging the fibres. |
