Concrete reinforcing steel mats are supported at the required distance from the shuttering by strips of plastics or metal. The strips (1) have rows of regularly spaced holes (2), and can be broken along transverse lines of weakness (3) to suit the size of the reinforcing mat. The strips may have notched edges instead of rows of holes, or both holes and notched edges. The strips have transverse slots (7) extending from one edge to the centre line of the strip. These slots are wide enough to receive a second strip, in order to form a grid. The cross-section of the strip may be rectangular, V-shaped, triangular, trapezoidal or of a double V-shape with different included angles. The contour of the edges may be either a zig-zag or corrugated in shape.
|
