A flange profile 1 for railings, in particular an upper flange profile which is suitable for use as the support bar for the hand rail cover 13, is designed in such a way that it can be deformed, in a simple and reliable fashion, to give planar or curved railing arches. To this end, a plurality of profile bars 5' and 5'', which correspond in each case to a partial cross-section of the flange profile 1, which are made of a material which can undergo plastic deformation, are connected to one another and/or are supported against one another in such a way that they are located next to one another in the principal plane of cross-section of the flange profile 1 but can be moved relative to one another in the direction of their longitudinal axis (Fig. 4). <IMAGE>
