NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R1 is aryl or heteroaryl; R2 and R3 are H, alkyl or together form alkylene; R4 is alkenyl or alkynyl, Y is Cl, Br or I; A is alkylene). EXAMPLE:N-[1-phenyl-2,2-( dimethyl )etheyl ]-N-chloroaceto-2'-( 2''-propynyloxy)- ethylamide. USE:A herbicide having high herbicidal effect especially against a gramineous weed, cockspur-grass and exhibits excellent effect also against umbrella plant, bulrush, etc., belonging to Cyperaceae family. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a Schiff base compound of formula II with a haloacetohalogenide of formula YCH2COX (X is halogen) in the presence of a hydrogen halide acceptor (prefer ably triethylamine, etc.) in a solvent (e.g., N,N-dimethylformamide) at -20-+150 deg.C.
