Solid and gaseous hazardous material are removed from polluted gas by an arrangement in which the gas flows through a filter element (4) from an untreated gas chamber (1) to a clean gas chamber (2). Filter elements consist of perforated, flat and thermostable material with a sorption layer (5) on the clean gas side. One or more desorption heat sources (6) is provided on the clean gas side for thermal regeneration of the sorption layer. Also claimed is a process for combined removal of dusts and gaseous hazardous materials in which thermal regeneration is carried out before removal of dust, which can also take place without regeneration.
